The New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium is proud to announce three new additions to its Executive Board: Dr. Dolores, Gomez, Dr. Heather Kovich, and Dr. Laura Chambers-Kersh. Continuing a tradition started more than a decade ago, these new members bring highly valued guidance and insight to NMPCTC as program directors for several of New Mexico’s family medicine residency programs.
- Dr. Dolores Gomez is the Program Director of the Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program in Las Cruces. A graduate of New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, she completed her family medicine residency at SNMFMRP in 2001. Dr. Gomez also completed fellowships in Advanced Hospital Training and Faculty Development in Phoenix, Arizona, and returned to her home community in 2009 to serve as faculty and later Program Director.
- Dr. Heather Kovich serves as Program Director of the Shiprock-UNM Family Medicine Residency Program, a rural training track based at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock. A full-scope family physician, she has practiced in Shiprock for more than a decade and served in numerous leadership roles, including Chief of Staff. She has coordinated student and resident rotations since 2010 and continues to advocate for rural medicine through her writing and leadership.
- Dr. Laura Chambers-Kersh is the Program Director of the University of New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program in Albuquerque. Board certified in both Lifestyle and Culinary Medicine, she also completed a fellowship in Obstetrics. Her experience spans service in the Indian Health Service, the U.S. Army, and global health efforts in Malawi, Mozambique, Liberia, Thailand, and Cuba. With over a decade of experience as faculty, Dr. Chambers-Kersh is deeply committed to resident education and mentorship.
We are honored to welcome and thank Drs. Gomez, Kovich, and Chambers-Kersh for joining our leadership board and for their continued dedication to strengthening primary care training across New Mexico.
