NMPCTC Leaders Discuss Primary Care Training on Speak Up Las Cruces

On July 1, Dr. Dolores Gomez, NMPCTC Board President, and Dr. John Andazola, NMPCTC Designated Institutional Official, visited KTAL-LP Studios for a conversation with Speak Up Las Cruces hosts Peter Goodman and Nancy Baker about the impact of primary care training in New Mexico.

The discussion highlighted various topics, including the Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program’s impact on care in New Mexico over the past 30 years, which includes its 164 graduates, 90 of whom have stayed in New Mexico, including 35 now practicing in Las Cruces ERs, clinics, and hospitals. The group also discussed New Mexico’s recent $24 million legislative commitment to funding graduate medical education throughout the state.
