LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium (NMPCTC) has been awarded a $75,000 Family Medicine Residency Seed Programming Grant from the ABFM Foundation. This three-year grant, beginning in February 2025, will support NMPCTC’s “Building Equity through the New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium Learning Collaboratory.”
The Collaboratory will expand NMPCTC’s existing virtual learning infrastructure to include residency programs in Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. The network’s goal is to strengthen health equity perspectives across residency training, improving social accountability and, ultimately, health outcomes in the communities served by family medicine residency programs in the region.
This initiative will:
Demonstrate how health equity training can improve health outcomes in communities served by family medicine residency programs in New Mexico;
Build collaborative and community-focused research strategies to support residency programs beyond large academic medical centers;
Offer tools and support to help programs strengthen their commitment to social accountability; and
Share effective approaches for building and sustaining residency learning networks nationwide.
The ABFM Foundation’s support will enhance understanding of how Residency Learning Networks can amplify the impact of family medicine residency training, particularly in addressing community health needs through equity-focused education and research.
